I just noticed that the “Professional” tire shop possibly used a grinder to remove the tape weights while rebalancing tires. This has been taken down to bare aluminum in spots and now needs paint.
Has anyone ever seen a shop remove tape weights like this? And any recommendations on touch up paint? This is a 2021 Lariat with the Sport black out option.
That really sucks. I have never seen that before. I wondered how the different tire shops remove the stick on weights. I am usually more concerned with the other tools they use on the lug nuts and dismounting the tire causing damage. For touch up type painting, I have been using Rustoleum 2X on steel, aluminum (not wheels though), and plastic, and the Rustoleum 2X seems excellent. Just use several slightly distant light spray coats. Even though the tire shop used some sort of grinding, I would sand that before painting. I used the Rustoleum 2X on the truck black front tow hook and it blended so exact you could not tell it was repainted, and it never rusted.
Look for wheel paint on amazon. My F-350 had some pealing paint. I scuffed it up with some fine steel woof, taped off the non painted areas and sprayed away. It wasn't the best job, but after it dried I couldn't notice it unless I searched.
