So I took my 66 down to the store with a buddy and wanted to do some showing off(always getting into trouble this way). Anyway my trucks got the np435 assuming it’s been hopped up a bit since first gear is taller than most and doesn’t seem to be an actual granny gear. Either way I dumped the clutch into first and something clanked real hard an I lost pretty much all power or so I though. I climbed out looked it over didn’t see nothing hanging, or leaking. So I started it back up put it in first and gave it a little gas and it would grab and then loose first, I was able to baby it home but with any acceleration it pops out of gear and then will regrab the gear when the RPMs come down. I ain’t the brightest fella and I’ve got lots to learn so I’m asking what the damage may be. Throw out or pilot bearing? Possibly just cooked the shift forks or internals, looking for what it might be. Obviously still gonna rip it all apart just curious how bad it might be.
does it do it in all gears, or only first? if only in first, i am going to say trans parts broke. if in all gears, i al going to say rear differential gears broke.

does it in all gears from what I could feel. Definitely pops out of second and then will regrab the gear, when driving it shimmy’s and lurches a bit. I did have someone creep it by me and I thought I had heard some rear end binding noise. Here is what I got out of the transmission. Pulled the inspection plate off Lots of glitter aswell
