Racing engine until 3 gear
I bought a 82 F-100, 3 on the tree, as a fixer-uper. I had to replace the clutch because I thought that it was slipping. By slipping I mean Instead of shifting from 1st to 2nd at about 30-35mph, I have to shift at 15-20mph. Same with 2nd gear, I have to shift at 35-40 mph to 3rd gear then the rpm drop substantially. I've had people tell me that I can run 2nd gear all the way out to about 55 but the engine races too much. For one, is this right for a 3 speed and if it's not is it bad clutch adjustment and/or something totally different. Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the info. But Before I replaced the chattering clutch it never ran like this. I'm new to trucks and re-building them but I'm maybe thinking something with the fly-wheel. Or if not that carb probs. When the guy sold it to me he said that it was used as a farm truck (Which as eager as I was to have my own vehicle I should have waited) and the rear bumper was bent to heck. I'm thinking that he tried pullin a stump or somthing that could have done that truck in. Thanks again.
