I was staring my truck (1997 350K wrecked and put back together multiple times WORK TRUCK) today with some starter fluid (the glow plugs don't work at all) and I caught the air filter on fire and it burnt up the stock plastic intake. What's the cheapest option I have, short of running around with no air cleaner?

Probably ask around, hunt around and find a factory takeoff intake for free. Could probably use a 99-03 version as well
Start with the relay and work your way out. Not like cans of Cosby are free...nor is your time huffing it into the engine while cranking.
This is an entirely fair point. I drive the truck a couple times a month and I live in the south so 10 months out of the year I get by without glowplugs. Then the 2 months it's cold I squirt ether 4 times to get me through the season and then forget about it for 10 months.
I actually have a set of Motorcraft GPs I bought about 10 years ago with the intention of changing them but the thought of finding a swollen plug keeps me going back to the can. I know it's not right but it's easy
@Hit Man X is only saying that because replacing the intake should be secondary. dude knows his crap. take a look at your relay and other issues.
My stock airbox got melted into a blob and I can look down my intake tube and see my turbo blades. If I ingest an acorn and the turbo takes a dump the truck is going to the junkyard, the level of Rode Hard and Put Away Wetness cannont be overstated. Everything on it is clapped out and while a working glow plug system would be really nice, keeping it from sucking something into the motor is higher on my list right now
