A few of The topper bolts on my 86 were not in great shape, and finally stripped out. In my opinion, the M6-1.00 weren't up to the task to begin with, but they did last almost 40 years.
So anyway, the two outside bolts on top, and the two at the extreme rear are actually encased nuts in the body, rather than the speed nut style clips. I drilled them and tapped for 5/16-24 bolts, and there's a great improvement in holding power. Not that they need to be torqued down much...

Okay
Right, those bolts sucked, I broke a few off and replaced several sets
So did the gasket / weatherstrip
Used to see the tops bolted down with the weatherstrip twisted or out of position
We used to tell people to either take the top off each year and lube the bolts and the weatherstrip / gasket or never take it off
+1 for re tapping them (not easy)
I still have a few of those bolts kicking around
We used to replace them often, about half were cross threaded from the factory it seemed
Mini Vent Lube (Motorcraft XL10) is what to put on the weatherstrip
