Potential Purchase of Truck with Blown Out Plug with Insert Question
I am considering the possibility of buying a truck that has the number 2 plug blown out with a previously installed insert. It is about 170 miles from home for me, I was considering driving it home if I went forward with purchase, just unplug the injector and COP, that should be okay, yeah? The real question I have is can that plug hole be resleeved with a proper insert? For me, the main reason for the purchase is to swap the driver door and fender to our Excursion as ours has minor damage and this is the same color and straight, then sale the truck again probably as I don't have the space or need to keep it.
Supposedly the transmission has been recently replaced (seller is going to look for the paperwork to confirm details, but sounds like it was with a rebuilt unit) and I was flirting with the possibility of swapping transmissions as well, as ours shifts hard from 2nd to 3rd at times, but that may be more work than I am prepared for at the moment, and maybe ours just needs flushed out. Discussion for another time probably.
The simpler option is to try to get a door and fender from a scrap yard, but those aren't easy to come by where I am. I feel I can get the truck, swap what is like, and sell it back for probably around the same cost of what I purchase it for and put into fixing the plug hole. If I have to pull the head, then my labor may not be worth it at this point...
Thanks for your input,
Grady
driving it home as you state i wouldn't do , 170 miles on a flatbed will be a tad pricey
