Accessory Delay relay never grounding out. possible gem module problem
I have a 2003 F350 Superduty I recently removed an aftermarket Avital remote start/alarm system from. With this system removed, I no longer have power to the stereo or to powered windows. Everything else appears to work fine. It turned out relay 306 had been completely removed from the fuse panel, I replaced it, and after some probing, it is evident that relay pin 85 is never being grounding out. If I jump a ground to pin 85, the stereo comes on and the windows work. I checked the pins in the central junction box and they all look good, clean and tight. Does anybody have ideas of what to check next?
I've no idea how that remote start wired in and it could definitely have something to do with the problem, but another cause of those symptoms can be a bad relay in the instrument cluster.
Here’s how I finally fixed the problem!Since I had the instrument cluster out already, I went ahead and re-soldered those joints and put everything back together… it still didn’t work.
I traced down the wire that grounds out pin 85. It is the light blue wire coming from the large multi pin that attaches to the back of the relay box and runs all the way up to the instrument cluster.
A continuity check from pin 85 on the front of the fuse box to the light blue wire that connects to the back of the instrument cluster showed the wiring was OK.
I concluded it was an internal problem in the instrument cluster circuit board. I didn’t see burn marks or anything obviously wrong so I shipped it to Circuit Board Medics
A few days later, it came back and everything is working perfectly again!
Thank you guys for your help on this. And if anybody is having this problem, feel free to shoot me a message if you want help.
