Want to start the truck today and I found the IDM relay chattering. Swapped it with a different one and had the same result. The truck is driving normal but the relay has been clicking thousands of times per minute since startup. Not sure what steps to take next besides spraying cleaner on the fuse box. Truck has no codes.
the problem went away for now after driving for about 30minutes
A relay usually chatters when there is a loose or questionable connection on the control side of the relay. The 86 pin on the IDM relay is fed power from the 87 pin of the PCM relay which is right there also. The ground(85 pin) is supplied by the PCM from pin 80 of it's connector. Confused yet, I think I am. I'd probably start w/ checking for resistance between pin 87 of the PCM relay and pin 86 of the IDM relay. Shouldn't read anything over 0.3ish. Then again between the 85 pin on IDM relay and the 80 pin of the PCM connector. I'd probably check both circuits to B+ and B- to rule out a short and the resistance across the coil just because I was there.
Edit: To be honest I'm kinda surprised the thing is running like that. I'd expect the gauge cluster to look like Christmas and the motor to be stumbling at the very least.
