15 Expedition Limited Driver Door Lock Gremlin
I have a 2015 Expedition that recently developed an electrical gremlin. The driver door lock stopped functioning except for manually locking and unlocking. At the same time, the "key in ignition" alarm started going off when the driver door is opened. I assumed the actuator was bad and replaced it. As soon as I plugged in the new actuator, the alarm stopped and the door lock began functioning. As soon as I tightened the last screw on the door panel, the alarm started again and the lock stopped working.
I then tested the old actuator by jumping the terminals to the battery, and it was not bad. I took the door panel back off today because I had forgotten to hook the power mirror back up and low and behold, while the panel was of, the alarm stopped and the lock started working! After putting the door panel back on, it no longer works and the alarm is over again going off with the door open. Does anyone have any ideas on what and how to chase this little gremlin?
Thanks in advance!
it’s possible that things are getting moved around just enough to work or not work when you get in there to work on it.
just a guess based on the most common problem that I know about.
pull the panel again and see if things start working. If they do, inspect the door. Especially all pinch points and where fasteners are. Probably have an exposed wire that is somehow being "pinched" when the panel is installed; causing a short. Or maybe a fastener is protruding and sticking into a wire bundle. Wiring diagram won't help in this situation.
