My wife has a 2020 Expedition Platinum with 70k. It has started shifting hard from 7th to 8th gear. Is this normal, or should I take it to a transmission shop?
I think a harsh 7-8 shift is a common symptom of a failed CDF drum where the bushing in the drum has been pushed out of its proper location and partly blocks oil flow.
I'd take it in, but be prepared for a full rebuild if you do. There is an updated CDF drum where the bushing is staked into position better than the original.
I bought an extended warranty for mine when I bought the vehicle and I'm hoping to force it into a failure mode before the warranty expires. I'm not trying to sabotage my vehicle, but clearly (pic below) it doesn't get babied. It's a super common problem that affects more people than it doesn't.
