98 Expedition - Liftgate handle issue
My liftgate handle has gotten harder & harder to turn over the last year, especially the farther you have to turn it, either direction. Then the handle wants to stick in that position & has to be manually moved back to its neutral position in order for the latching mechanism to work when closing either the glass or the door itself. I took off the trim pieces on the liftgate to get a closer look. Everything on the inside of the handle location is very rusty. I have sprayed the rusty mechanisms with PB Blaster a couple of times & used a small wire brush to try to knock off any of the loose rust i can reach.
How do I figure out which part is the 1 making it almost impossible to turn? Is it the handle, or the part that the handle connects to (the part that connects to the cables that open the door or the glass), or the latch itself? My Chilton's manual doesn't give a good diagram for the parts & I'm struggling to find 1 online that I can read.
