Long (and very very agrivating and irritating) story short. I hopped out of my truck to do something, 2 minutes later I hear something rolling towards me it was the flipping truck! as I watched the driver side door clip a nearby tree my heart sank and I dove into it and jumped on the brake. I, without a doubt, put that thing in park, all I can think is that I didn't get it all the way locked over and from time and vibration it clicked over to Reverse. Either way, that's not my problem. In trying to repair the door, I determined it's unrepairable, too many kinks in the metal and too many plastic/rubber/metal pieces bent out of shape. Also, I realized that I had left the window down (praise God) so the glass is ok. really my only problem is the metal. What would be my best bet on getting the metal (door and frame) replaced? Junkyard? Aftermarket? I would assume I could take the interior portion out and install the door then put all of the other items back on. I am so irritated right now I can't see straight or think straight. Just needed to hear from the ford boys I guess.
i got a drivers door for 250 at a local junk yard. That included trim, glass, and all(except mirror). Remember, never pay the asking price at junk yards, always try to haggle them down.
sorry to hear that man, that REALLY sucks, but i got an awsome solution for you.. go to this site... www.car-part.com dont forget the dash... this will search every junkyard for your door.. you can narrow your search from the entire country right down to just your town.. it will tell you every junkyard that has your part, it will tell you price and even color of the door they have!! good luck, let me know how your search goes...
ok, looks like there are some junkyards locally that have my door and my color. I have a few questions on installing it.
1. the door lock. any tips?
2. I have done all the other work on this vehicle (you name I have done it on all my vehicles) but I have had issues before with getting the door set straight so it closes properly and the latch operates smoothly (i have got it but not without much pain) any tips?
i think as long as your truck is pritty straight, and the truck you get your door from is pritty straight, it should be pritt much a bolt on and you might be good.. i know it is a pain to adjust a door, and switch the loc, but that is the way i would go.. you dont want to be missing the door key.. if you PM me, i have the ford repair CD.. i can email you the repair info you need.. it shows fords step by step repair instructions...
I just put a door on recently. I left the hinges on the frame alone and bolted them to the new door. Shut perfectly the first time, maybe I just got lucky. Hope this helps.
Oh one more tip, if the hinges are not bent from the impact then you dont need new ones obviously, although sometimes even if they are bent a bit, it is still possible to adjust the door to offset the porblem areas. As for the lock, IIRC the whole handle can be swapped over once you unhook the rods inside the door. GL!
ok, another question. I have an EB Expy. I haven't found a place local that has an EB door, only XLT's any draw back to me dealing with the conversion?
I know for one there is a molding difference on the door, what about interior arrangement?
unfortunately I had some back issues that I had to get taken care of, then my truck (1991 nissan) pooped out on me and just now (as in the past 2 weeks) I have the time and money to finally pick up a door and replace it. I prefer to get an EB door but will settle for an XLT and just move the moldings...(3M adhesive remover should help this)

Well, if nobody else is going to correct him, I will. It's Pretty....Not Pritty. (Sorry, I couldn't help it).
