defrost vent thread size

Tracking down some electrical gremlins today and had the dash panel out, the the a/c vents removed and found my drivers side defrost vent laying on top of everything ... will reinstall tomorrow but the nuts for the studs are long gone... I've tried 10-32, 10-24, 12-24, and 8/32 ... #12 just slides down the stud... what size nuts hold that defrost funnel up under the dash ??? I even tried #5 metric... nothing fits

little help ?????

10-32 thread size is what the studs on my 55 are. I was installing the ducts after paint and chased the threads with a die.

John,
Maybe its not supposed to be a real nut. Could it be one of these?

No, they are a real 10-32 nut, 3/8" wide, 1/8" thick, hexagon common nut (34079-S7) and lockwasher (34903-S8)
