Could use some guidance here. Was replacing the bushings on the rear sway bars of my recently purchased explorer as the bushings where non existent. Passenger side went fine. Drivers side the nuts where seized up and now the studes are free spinning. Any advice on getting them off and out?
Welcome to the forum! Assuming you plan to keep this Explorer, or other vehicles like it, for awhile, you may want to invest in an inductive heater for seized fasteners you encounter in the future. It might prevent this type of frustration.
I'm assuming you're referring to studs that are normally captive in the frame rail of the Explorer and therefore there's no way to get to the bolt/stud head to hold it from spinning. If so, your best option may be to cut the stud off, then either order new captive stud and hardware, or weld a bolt into the frame and hope the welds hold. Use anti-seize when reassembling.
Yep, it's the studs that clip into the frame in the rear. It's an odd setup and definitely in an odd position. I picked up a nut splitter in hopes that might work to split them off. Otherwise take a rotary tool wheel to it I guess and cut it off. One of the nuts was rounding off anyway I think
