2018 Expedition with delivery late Oct 2017. Original battery lasted 7years and 4 months. Last night temps were 28 F below zero. This morning the Expedition would not start or even crank, but the message screen said brake failure, see owners manual, visit nearest dealer.
Voltage measured 11.99V. Turns out when the battery is less than 12V, the electric parking brake will not disengage which prevents the engine from turning over. I connected a battery cart to the battery and it started right away. Installed a new battery and everything was back to normal. There is a way to disengage the parking brake manually, but I did not figure that out until I had already installed the new battery. Just wanted to pass along this tid-bit of Expedition lore.
