5.0 coyote purchase
My question is about purchasing a 5.0 engine from eBay. I understand these engines typically come from damaged or wrecked Mustangs or trucks. Has anyone had experience dealing with scrap yards that pull and sell these 5.0 engines? Also say they run with video. I know they strip down the ECU in order for them to run, but that can be reprogramed.
I've contacted two different yards on eBay, and both said they don't currently have the engines that they are advertising. (?) but can put me on a list if I leave a deposit. I am not so sure about this deposit. I'm specifically looking for a low-mileage 5.0 with the 6R80 transmission.
Thanks,
Hammy
they list all the yards in the area you select with the part you are looking for.
Thank you for that information, I have looked over the site and it seems a lot of different yards feeding parts, and one very near me. As I would like to purchase new, this is not in the cards.
Do you or others find these yards open to negotiating price? I ask for I am also in need of a S550 IRS.
if you are set on new, than direct from ford is the way to go.
with internet sellers, you have no idea what you are getting.
at least from ford you will get a warranty you can trust.

I have been looking at coyotes listed by a nearby yard and all of theirs state a 6 month parts only warranty with a extended warranty at extra cost. That is the way the way that I will probably go however ebay has a ironclad 30 day money back guarantee I will likely use a F150 one as they are cheaper and more plentiful and still more power than I need.
Thank you for the reply on this. I get we all have our thoughts and possibly experiences with different vendors so nice to ask and see what others experience. I would believe that not all coyote swaps that have been done for years go to a new engine. Some sure. Looking at new engines, 10,000 (low end) plus for just the engine, not including accessories, and trans and not to mention the stand alone kits to install it. What $20.000 end result. I have it but not going to spend that on my '64. I can live with the 4.6 if I cant find a used warranted 5.0 w/ engine harness, accessories, and trans. Also not to mention I am installing a s550 IRS.
I have also talked with my local yard through carparts, and they are no more different than say, Ebay. would save say freight, but yea. Would be good to hear from someone that did a swap and whom they worked with, just for the sake of it I guess.
End statement, I get it, buy used and it blows up in a week, right. Buy new and have a good warranty, but then $$.
