Out of Storage Maintenance Questions

I am removing my 2020 F250 7.3 from long term storage next month and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. I’m not sure what additional maintenance needs to be done to it if any. I received OCONUS PCS orders back in 2022 and have been in Japan for two years. The vehicle is in a commercial facility where they run it every three weeks, check all fluids, and move it. The truck has about 30,000 miles and I put in fresh oil prior to storage. I’m planning on picking it up and driving it to my new duty station right away, which will be about an 8 hour trip. Should I get the oil changed? What about brake fluid etc? Thanks in advance.

If they did with it as you said the most you'll have in the oil is a lot of moisture as I cant imagine they let it run for an hour at a time and high idle or put under load. Either way moisture will evaporate on your 8 hour drive and not be a problem. Id check fluid levels and take it around the lot a few times to make sure all is functioning and then be on my way if no odd noises or smells are present.

I'd be more concerned with 2 year old fuel. If it was mine, I would drive it until the low fuel lamp came on, then fill with fresh fuel, repeat.

If it were me and putting it in storage I would look for ethanol free gas prior, run a tank through it before storage fill maybe 1/4-1/2 tank (would have to do a little more homework on amount and storage location would be part of decision. ) Put some gas treatment in it also.

I would think it should survive storage especially if it was ran periodically like stated. Engines and components are pretty tough.

I've been storing our car and F150 for years for 7 to 24 months at a time in our unheated garage at our home base and the only things I do is put them up on blocks and disconnect their battery. When we get home I just connect the battery, remove the blocks and drive it. Running it every few weeks is the worst thing that you can do because of moisture being built up in the motor because it doesn't get up to full temperature by driving it. I also leave them with 10% ethanol fuel in the tank without any problems over the last 18 years.

When I turned it in, it had to be below a quarter tank. I assume they add fuel as they run it, but I did run fuel stabilizer in the last tank and made sure to use ethanol free gas.

When I was in uniform many years ago I did about the same with storage at times. I always brought it back on base to the MWR facility I might be confusing the name. But we had a full on mechanic shop you could rent by the hour or so. It was so cheap. Also many who worked in that shop were good mechanics and helped us out a lot. I replaced a clutch in the transmission and did not have all the tools I needed personally and they rolled a toolbox over and helped me. Did a head replacement on a minivan once. I mean if you have one on base you could drop by and do an oil change if need be and they usually will help do a multi point inspection of all fluids and all to give you piece of mind. I couldn’t say enough good things about those places. Both on my native Marine Corps base and navy base and even an army base during my time.
