Bringing Home a New to Me/Used Truck, What to Service?
So, when you bring home a truck (such as a 99 7.3 PSD 4X4 Auto, Stock all the way around from what I'm told) what are some of the things that need to be serviced first and what should be checked? I assume change oil, transmission fluid, differential fluid? Anything I'm missing. Additives for the fuel or other fluids to clean stuff up? If he ran conventional oil does it hurt to switch it to T6?
Also, what would you ask the previous owner? Date of last service for oil, tranny fluid, etc? What is yall's process and things to look out for. The truck in question has a little over 250k on it...
I plan to have this truck for quite some time and would like to see it last as a reliable vehicle.
Thanks, Kelpy

Read this thread from a former poster that put together a great list of things to look at when buying a new to you (used) 7.3

As far as going from conventional to Synthetic and back, no worries at all these days. many of us in colder climates do it every winter to help with starting on those cold winter days, then go back when the weather warms up.

It is a good idea to change pretty much every fluid and filter there is on the truck when buying a new rig. Then you are able to start a fresh maintenance log and keep tabs on things.
Check out the engine valley and see if you find puddles of oil. This is pretty common, but it means you will be fixing leaks shortly too.
