AOD Throttle Valve Stuck

I have an '85 F-150 with 5.0L FI engine. Recently it stopped shifting out of first. I've found several threads that point to the issue being the throttle valve.

I took the pan off and the valve was definitely stuck all the way in as seen in the picture below.

I tapped on the plunger a few times with the throttle valve lever and in popped out a little bit as seen in the following picture. It will push in and out now, but not nearly that amount that I see in other videos/pictures. I'm hoping someone can tell me what could be holding it in and how to fix it. thanks

Also does anyone know where to buy the inner throttle lever/rod? My son snapped the threaded part off the outer end where the nut goes on.

From the pictures it looks like the TV rod linkage is holding the plunger into the valve body. If you move the linkage back does the valve stay in that position? If so you will most likely have to remove the valve body and disassemble the valve train to free it up. If the transmission is making debris especially metal, this can be the reason the valve is stuck in the first place so there is no reason to fix the valve unless during a rebuild to stop the debris.

To make matters worse the TV valve rod that is broken is very difficult to find these days, and can be tricky to install if you can even get one. Also I do not recommend driving this vehicle without a working throttle valve because it can ruin the transmission in a short period of time.

Even with the linkage moved back the valve still stays in the same position. It will rotate and push in slightly but will not move out any more even pulling with light pressure. I haven't noticed any metal debris, but the truck was sitting for quite a few years before getting it running again.

Is it possible to remove the clip and push everything out without removing the whole valve body?

thanks

The valve has a clip that has to come out and the only way to get the clip out is to remove the valve body and the metal separator plate.

This valve body has a upper and lower valve body gaskets too that will most likely tear and have to be replaced before reassembly.

Uggh, not what I wanted to hear.

Thanks for your help. If I figure it out, I'll post what I find.

Here's a quick update. The clip was on the bottom side, so I was able to pull the valve components out without removing the valve body. I honed the bore a bit and sanded the plunger and everything works smoothly now.

I fixed the TV rod by drilling and tapping and using a bolt and washers in place of the nut. Hopefully be able to test it in a day or two when I get a new pan gasket.
