Injector Help

My Excursion has been pretty much parked for the last 3 years I may have driven it 2 or 3 short trips a year of less than 5 miles each trip. I finally took it out for a good run and I burned a lot of oil. The trip was around 100 miles and I used at least a gallon of oil. The turbo looks good so I'm looking at injector o-rings. It has 280,000 miles on it and am trying to decide if I should be completely rebuilding the injectors or just doing the external o-rings. I keep expanding the job thinking maybe I should do the cups too. I quickly got lost when reading about it, it went from rebuilding to modifying to stage 1, 2 and then I was completely lost.

If anyone can give me some guidance it would be appreciated.

I would not do the cups unless you see a failure once the injectors are out. Seems like there’s more trouble caused than prevented when doing them as preventative maintenance. Just my opinion.

Regarding the injectors, I would call CNC Fab or Rosewood to get their advice.

The advice Jason gave you and which I have quoted would be my advice as well.

If the plans are not to drive much I would just install new O rings and maybe check injector armature clearance and shim them. If it's going to be driven more often and further, IMO and if money is of no concern get the injectors rebuild by the guys posted by Jason.

Pretty subjective topic, though when I was in the market and trying to make the same decision I went with new stock injectors. Fewer problems, less hassle to get everything working well, less temperamental.

If you do new or rebuild, I would recommend Bitterroot Diesel Performance. They do quality work.

BDP no longer rebuilds injectors.
