Tired of dealing with problem I'm having. Looking at later model trucks and seems almost all are 3.5 eco's. Was told newer 5.0 were junk, lots of problems. True or just someone pushing the 3.5 to try and make a sell?
if the 5.0l is junk why do so many people build them? anyone telling you they are junk are simply used car salesmen, biggest issue in my mind is ford builds more v6's than 5.0's lots are over loaded with the 3.5's . want answers, just read the threads in here about them
IMMO i'd pass on the v6 and jump at a 5.0
Wow…That's one I’ve never heard, for good reason. Bought mine new in 2015 and have never had a minutes worth of trouble from it. I have owned and still own too many ford trucks to list (along with the other two brands) and this one is at the top of the list.
I have never owned a ecoboost, nor will I as long as there’s a 5.0 to be had, but a friend of mine has one and has always been a bit disappointed in the power and mileage. Definitely not a problem with the 5.0. To each his own but give me the V8.
Ford fails to tell buyers that ECO-BOOST is "ECO" or "BOOST", but not both at the same time. If you don't drive it aggressively, it can get better gas mileage than the v8, and that may be why Ford builds more of them; to help increase the corporate average fuel economy (CAFE).
In theory, you can use a carefully controlled turbocharged small engine behave like a bigger engine; similar power and torque curves.
In practice, any engine stressed harder will wear out faster. If you take a smaller engine and add a power adder to make it produce the same power as the bigger engine, it will wear out faster.
my brother in law has an egoboost explorer. i have a 3.5 non egoboost explorer. he gets 17 mpg driving like grandma going to church. i beat the snot out of mine and get 20 plus.
I'm guessing he's not as gentle a driver as you might think. It's like trying to drive as hot rodded v8 "gently"; as much as you try it's just not going to get as good mileage as a small 4 cylinder. That's my experience with two Mustangs; a 2.3L I4 vs 5.0L HO v8, both stock.
Thanks for the input, was leaning towards the 5.0. I also believe that smaller engines will wear out faster trying to produce the power and torque. Plus I'm a little old school, love the v8 sound. Thanks again for the input.

I have a 2022 F150 super crew with the 5.0 and love it. It pulls stronger than my 09 5.4. We pull a 28 Ft travel trailer with it. I’m very impressed by this trucks capabilities. I briefly considered the 3.5 eco boost with the power boost feature. Then I drove the 5.0 and that is all it took.
the powerboost is no turbo 3.5, not egoboost powered.
The one I looked at was an eco boost (ie Turbo) with the on board 7KW generator (ie Power boost) . I drove the one they had on the lot. Went over all the standard and added options. The only problem was the one we wanted they didn’t have on property so I would have had to order it. At the time it would have taken almost a year to arrive. So my salesman showed me the 5.0 they had on the lot. It had the 400W onboard inverter. Once I drove the 5.0 it was a no brainer and bought it.
I had a 2011 F-150 FX4 SCREW EB and had nothing but problems with it. Under warranty had the timing chain changed at around 50,000 miles and then again just under the end of my extended warranty at 97,000 miles. I should have known to trade it in then for an F-150 with a Coyote. At about 130,000 miles had to have the transmission rebuilt for a few thousand and then at about 150,000 miles the timing chain had to be replaced again, that was a $6,500 repair out of a warranty. Then at 170,000 miles the engine blew, sold it for parts and bought a 2018 FX4 SCREW with the Coyote!
