Engine knock and oil from front of motor
I am pretty sure my dads 2014 6.7 is blown up, but want to try to get some info on what mighgt have failed. He was accelerating at moderate throttle when there was a loud bang and a terrible knock sound. There is a lot of oil coming from somewhere in the front cover. Its si tight in there i cant see where exactly it is coming from. The knock definitely sound like a rod knock or something similar, and there is a low oil pressure warning. I cant see any holes in the side of the block or oil pan. The main thing I am wondering is where that oil is coming from on the front cover. Has anyone run into something similar? Truck has around 100,000 miles on it. He bought it with around 80,000 on it from a ford dealer.

I just watched a video last night by a guy who runs a diesel shop. Said that tuned 6.7s are failing at the main bearings because people are tuning them with tunes that perform the injection event at the wrong time and it causes the bearings to get hammered, especially at low RPM. He showed one he just tore down, the bearings were delaminated and basically trash.

Good informative video, though.

Quite satisfied with my Banks Derringer and PM, more than enough power to make me happy, so hopefully it will last me a long time. A bang, followed by clanking, tapping, rapping, whatever you want to call it means a part broke loose internally and is striking the block or another part. Do Not Run once that happens to prevent more expensive repair. If the block is still intact, the engine can be rebuilt. Further running can window it, then its a complete new engine. Front covers can be replaced so don't bother running to find the oil leak, chances are the front needs to be taken down in order to even find it. As mentioned, call a tow truck and take it to a mechanic to diagnose and repair it.
