loud engine noise
I've noticed a loud tinging like sound lately from my motor right after I crank my truck and even after its warmed up and driving. This isnt like the sound you here if your gas is bad or something. Its almost like a loud crack and its been doing it everytime, everyday I drive it. 4.6L 54K Turns out when i just got my oil changed the mechanic told me my oil was a quart low from my last oil change. Could this loud cracking engine sound be a cause of my motor running a quart low on oil?

Just a couple simple questions.
Does the sound go away when you oil is full?
Does the 4.6L take 7qts of oil like the 5.4L?
Have you monitored the level and condition of oil on the dipstick in conjunction with the sound?
