My #7 exhaust spring broke, the pishrod fell down and is lating across the lifters.
I think I can get it out with a magnett. Asd for the spring, wgat do I replace it with. I don't know what size, pressure etc.
Right where it should be. I fished out the pushrod, bent, nut the valve is still sitting in its spot. I ordered a new stock exhaust spring and a few pushrods. I don't know the history of the engine, it's in a 66 F100 I just bought. The seller said engone needs rebuild. It looks like the puishrod and spring are the only problems. Fingers crossed.
Go ahead and smack / tap that valve with a brass hammer and see that it moves
It should
And yes, you should be okay after replacing the spring and pushrod

and installed new spring. Starts and runs fine but I’m going to pull the covers and inspect everything. One thing puzzles me, the pushrods have no hole for oil. Many sellers have pushrods with little holes presumably for oil, this motor has rods with no holes. Which is correct?
Your 400 needs hollow pushrods with oil traveling up through the center to lube the rocker arms
When they get worn pretty bad the oil hole sometimes gets rounded over and the oil hole disappears
The only Ford I am aware of that has no pushrod oiling provision is the FE series 352-428
They have a hardened steel ball on the end of the pushrods and shaft mounted rockers with provision for oil through the rocker shaft
Was your motor clacking pretty good?
I think you have a few worn pushrods maybe.
There is a little holr in each rocker where the pushrod sits right?
That is the oil hole for the rocker fulcrum. It needs a hollow pushrod
Good luck
Take a pointy pick tool and see if the hole opens up on a few

yes, little hole In rocker. The replacement pushrod I installed was Melling MPR-310, listed as Stock. It has no hole.
Their listing must be wrong
Go on the autozone website and look at 351 and 400 M pushrods, they will be hollow and have a hardened ball with a hole in it on both ends
Shows MPR 310 and it has a hole
Maybe they installed the wrong hardened ***** in yours or they were mis boxed?
Either way your 400 needs oil to come through the pushrod
I double checked, I doi't know how I missed it, they do have holes. I feel like an idiot.]
So weird I remember holding the rod in my hand and thinkng, " odd, no hole" but there was!!!
Wonderful, and you are no idiot for even knowing or checking
runs and drives. Took it for maiden voyage. It died after 1.5 mikes. 12 volt sup to distro came disconnected. Fixed it and now I’m having a whisk at my favorite lounge. F 100 proudly parked out front. Everyone stops and admires.
😂👍
