2014 What's best turbo? Rebuilt, New Ford or upgrade ?
Not a mechanic or expert, Stan. I just read a lot. Hopefully someone with more knowledge and experience will chime in.

More below... these are the later MY turbos that are apparently plug and play...

That's the Warlock turbo on top and the other kits with more parts and $$$ on bottom.

The other kits will include what is shown above...
Here's an article to give you an idea of what has to installed for those kits that require more parts...

Ideally I’d love to upgrade with the KC Warlock kit, but their site (as does any other ‘15+ retrofit kit) recommends tuning improvements to optimize the extra air that the newer style turbo would move. The shop local to me has installed newer kits in our older trucks with and without tuning, and mentioned the average guy probably won’t notice it, but if you’re towing and working the turbo it might have some lag to it. Since I’m running a Mini Maxx from the old H&S days, any new tunes would require a new tuner and I was quoted ~$7000 CAD for the kit and tuner, less what I could sell my Mini Maxx for.
These turbos are prone to failure anyways, so I don’t want a reman kit. Garrett makes the turbo and they have their own brand new turbo part number, which seems like the quickest and cheapest swap - likely what I’ll end up doing. For me in Canada, Summit was the cheapest I could find, even shipped with the dollar. This turbo plus an install kit and upgraded coolant line would run me about $3000 CAD.
Summit Racing Garrett 6.7
Those numbers don’t include labour, I’ll be doing it myself. If you’re getting a shop to do it, you should consider upgrading the coolant line since you are pulling it anyways. It seems like the fittings don’t like being disturbed and would likely leak shortly after.

Just found this... apparently they moved away from the failure prone ceramic bearings to steel... here's one.

"Early units supplied to Ford featured a ceramic ball bearing system that was prone to fail, and this unit has been redesigned to incorporate a steel ball bearing to address that issue once and for all.
- Low friction ball bearing system reduces mechanical loss and improves responsiveness and fuel economy
- Wastegate-on-VNT bypass valve allows a high power point by bypassing the turbo
- Steel ball bearing ensures efficient and long-lasting operation and has been redesigned from earlier ceramic ball bearing units
- Pedestal mount is not included. Ford suggests reusing the stock mount
- When this stock turbocharger fails, it often blows seals and allows oil into the intercooler. We suggest at a minimum an intercooler inspection and possibly a replacement at the same time the turbocharger is replaced.
- Your complete and rebuildable core must be received within 30 days in order to receive a core refund"
