I was wondering if anyone has tried adapting an 85 F150 power steering box to a 76 2wd F100 manual steering truck? The 76 is a 300 6 with 4 speed trans. I was given a steering box , pump, and steering column from an 85 truck. I realize the difference in bolt pattern and length. If anyone has looked into this I would appreciate your council.
How much different are the boxes? Do they bolt up the same? Same rotation? This could be the biggest issue.
If the pump came off another 4.9 it should fit your engine without too much issue, might need to add a spacer or shims to get it running true.
You might not have to change your column if you don't want to. The stock column might bolt to the newer box, or if it doesn't you might be able to buy or make an intermediate shaft to convert from the stock column to the new box.
speedfreak78, the boxes are different and do not bolt the same. The main difference being bolt pattern and length going down to the pitman arm. Thats comparison from the bullnose unit to the manual steering unit on the 76. Power Steering boxes for 72-79 F series are "un-obtainium" in my area. Aftermarket are out of my price range. Have never seen or heard of this type of conversion before. Not saying it can't be done. But would like advice from someone who has.tried and failed or succeeded. Thanks for your interest.

I sale gold plated "un-obtaninium" parts by the Ford truck bed load all the time. Along with gold hens teeth and 5 gallon buckets of Unicorn tears. Pm me.
Ford changed the P/S pump in 1978, it's smaller than the 1967/77 type and has a plastic reservoir. The seal kit and the mounting brackets are also different.
The P/S pressure hose has an O-ring on its end, attaches by using a qwik connect fitting.
