Well I’ve read mixed reviews and opinions on dual alternators and if it’s worth adding or not. But I’ve always liked the idea that it’s factory. I checked and my truck had the plug and showed to have voltage for the alternator feed wire. And I had a dual alternator bracket and wires off a engine we purchased for a customers work truck. Orileys couldn’t get the lower alternator in a new only reman so I decided to try a new upper everything bolted right in. I installed a new idler same as upper smooth idler. And bought a new belt gates ko81377 I’ll find the part number tomorrow on bracket. Checked after hooking everything up and according to my edge monitor it’s showing between 13.9-14.2.
Yep I keep the voltage up on pids on my edge cts3 monitor and both alternators are the same so either will work. In place of the other and with aftermarket I would half to wait for one to come in if it failed.
keep in mind if you lose 1 alt it won't set a light, it will set a code but you need to read it to know. At least for factory installed.
I lost the secondary years ago and it turned on the battery light. I have also had a replacement FoMoCo alternator remanufactured by Bosch for a few years 😁
Well a update on the swap sometimes when it’s cold and trucks not been running long if I take off the belt is slipping on the lower alternator. It is squeaking really loud I think I’m gonna try ordering a new oem tensioner from riffraff. Hopefully that helps does anyone else have any experience with this issue.
Well news on the alternator swap was doing some research on that front and turns out the lower alternator is supposed to have larger pulley. Atleast the demensions I was finding online which I’m running a upper alternator on the lower as well. Do to orileys couldn’t get a new lower alternator. I had them order a reman lower to measure it had smaller pulley than my current lower and upper. I ended up doing some searching and ordered a replacement pulley for 06 f350 6.0 alternator. Also installed 2 washers under each mounting point on my upper alternator. So far seems to have cured my problems.
@7.3 forever , do you happen to have the part numbers or specifications for the pulleys you wrote about above. Noting them here may help someone out in the future that is on a similar mission as you are.
