Newer Alternator Set-up for 1991 7.3
Hello,
I have a 1991 7.3 diesel with the v-belt set-up and I am putting in a newer 7.3 engine with the serpentine belt set-up from a 1993. The question is, how do I convert the alternator plug to accept the newer alternator? The plugs are different and believe that I need to add another regulator? Does any one know what else I need to do to make the 1993 alternator work?
I would rather have the serpentine belt over the v-belt set-up.

Can you move the serpentine pulley from the new alternator to the old alternator and then use the old alternator? You can go to the junk yard and find an alternator plug that fits your new alternator or you can go to the auto parts store and buy a new plug.
At some point in time Ford switched from external regulators to internal regulators. You need to determine if the new alternator has an external or internal regulator.

Do yourself a favor and use the newer style alternator. That style alt is far superior to the old style one you originally had. The newer alt is internally regulated so you will not need the voltage regulator mounted on the fender. Search for 3G alternator conversion writeups they will contain all the info you need.
