Hey, I’m having an issue with my truck I can’t quite figure out, haven’t done too much testing yet, but I’ve done a little. I ~100miles ago had a trans rebuilt with all red Eagle clutches and some triple disk converter (don’t know exact converter, my father got it for my birthday, was supposed to be a triple disk billet) before my trans blew it locked the tc no problem. According to my scan tool it does try to lock while driving but it doesn’t. No lockup switch at the moment. Is there some wire or something on the trans that might not be plugged in? OD light is flashing. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. I’ll include some pictures of a few codes that came up.
The P0743 is the problem. That is showing that the TCC (torque converter clutch) solenoid electrical circuit is open. It could be a damaged wire in the wiring harness, a problem with the electrical connector on the transmission, or a bad TCC solenoid.
Have you cleared the codes since these problems began? If not make sure you've kept a copy for reference then wipe'em. Go for a test drive long enough to make sure everything is up to temp and run it through it's paces. Then scan her again and see what comes back. A lot of those codes look like the gobble-de-gook you get when someone cycles the key while a bunch of wiring and sensors are disconnected.
Yes I tried clearing the codes, these are the ones that came up after a ~ 45 min drive. I’ll check out the wiring on the trans later today. Anyone know what connection/where at on the trans it’d be? Thanks for the help.
Passenger side about midship. The plug comes in from above so it's had to get a look at. It plugs into the transmission solenoid pack inside the pan. So if the connector checks out you may have to drop the pan to access the solenoid pack, or contact whoever the rebuilder was for warranty work.
You can see the TCC solenoid in the center left of the diagram below.
At the 4R100 transmission, the VT/YE circuit for the TCC solenoid is on connector 1048, which is pictured below.
Connector 1048 is located right about where udsuth78 indicated and based on the drawing below where c1048 is in the bottom right corner.
You may get lucky with a visual inspection since the TC functioned properly prior to the service, but if you need to dig deeper you will need to utilize a multi-meter and check for continuity and/or resistance.
Thanks for all the help, I’ll do some testing tomorrow when it quits raining. Would it be worth installing a lockup switch to tell if it’s internal or in the wiring of the truck?
also no check engine or check trans lights are on, just flashing od light if that matters, seemed like your post said it’d set a light
I would wait to install any modifications like a lockup switch until you get it back to 100% working as intended. Mark K and the fellas have some great advice for you going forward.
