Stellantis officially unveiled the Hurricane 3.0L straight-six dual-turbo engines today. There are two versions, a standard-output with a power of approximately 400 hp and 450 lb-ft, and a high-output expected to be 500 hp and 475 lb-ft., but the company says the exact output will vary based on the vehicle. The SO recommends gasoline of 91+ octane but will run on regular; the HO requires 91+ octane. Each turbo handles 3 of the 6 cylinders for faster boost response. The SO is tuned for fuel economy and Stellantis is claiming 15% improvement "over larger engines". The HO is tuned for high performance. The new I-6 is also expected to cut CO2 by 15%. Bore and stroke are the same as the global 2.0L inline 4.
At launch, these engines will sell alongside the current 5.7L and 6.4L Hemi V8s, but are expected to replace them eventually. Vehicles expected to use the new engines are the Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler; Dodge Durango, Charger, and Challenger; Ram pickups.
