I Can Read!!!

Looking at the RoushCharger for the F150's. THANK GOD FOR THE PSD!!
117 hp or so, and 135 ft/lbs for a couple grand!!

WE CAN DO IT FOR UNDER $300!!

SO HERE'S A QUESTION FOR THE FORUM.

SUPERCHARGER OR TURBOCHARGER? PRO'S AND CON'S?

Here's my two cents: Turbo = free power (no use of hp from engine)
I read in a SnapOn magazine about their top fuel dragster. 6000hp, but it uses almost 400 to operate the SC. THe cool part was that the spark plugs destroy themselves half way down the track, so the engine diesels it's way to the finish line. Cool stuff.

We have a supercharged 2 stroke 3 cylinder detroit in a motorgrader. At 4,000 rpm it sounds like a ticked off woodchipper. The question is raised because I have seen the TC and SC in Diesed apps.

I've never heard of a supercharger on a 4 stroke diesel.
I'm interested in hearing opinions as well.

i can't remember if it was two or four strokes but some detroit diesels used in big trucksing the 70's and 80's were supercharged and turbo charged. can't remeber if the turbo feeds the supercharger or the other way around.

yes superchargers use hp to make hp but i think they have less lag.

turbos are "free" power but some suffer from turbo lag

i saw a whipple supercharger setup on a newer suburban with a 8.1 big block. it was a nice setup. it added two more injectors to the intake and small intercooler. clean install and lots of power. too bad it was wasted on a chevy!

those were 2-stroke diesels that had a supercharger and a turbo charger...

The two strokes won't run without the blower, it's not really a power adder. They also use a turbo for that.

I think that since the blower is dependant on engine rpm to make boost it would become a restriction on the top end since we couldn't spin it fast enough to make any appreciable boost. Unless you pullied for big boost at low rpm's but then it would lag just like a turbo on the bottom.

a supercharger could work with low rpms if it were "geared" right for optimum boost at those rpm's. also with todays technology a varible "geared" blower is not a stretch. if you think about the varible clutch on snowmobiles...the same tech could be apllied to a blower. then the redline of the motor wouldn't matter. and lower rpm's could boost at the better pressures.

i don't know if its really worth it but it could work. i don't even come close to tap the full potential of my stock turbo so it really doesn't matter

why bother doing that on a supercharger, when the turbo does that itself today? ever hear of powerbraking?
