mshaeffer in 1988 ford still had a thunderbird that could preform,
that same year the turbocoupe thunderbird was awarded motor trends car of the year award & even from the factory it was impressive, the best brakes on a ford in years, great chassis & well the 2.3 turbo4 cylinder i also have done some wild mods on my 2.3 that raised the horsepower & torque to 475 hp & 450lbs feet torque on a chassis dino. Now this was not cheap or a fast process either, i have seen the prices of some of the stuff i purchased years ago & wow have they droped. A gentelman by the name of roland esslinger was a pioneer in the high preformance stuff for for 2.3liter SVO [SPECIAL VEHICLE OPPERATIONS] 4 bangers. Now i am have 2 lincoln mark 8's & one of them produces 500 hp & 525lbs feet of torque & i ran into a one of those little dodge neon srt4 on about a 10 mile highway stretch & wow it could move. Never seen a dodge move like that! But as the borg would say resistance is feutial. Some of the turbo tech on the newer cars is beyond the stuff i did to wring out 475 hp out of a 4 banger with little effort you may be able to add 100 or more hp out of your car. It is more expensive but there is no rush like a turbo engine not even nos. You have to refill nos when your out .
well good luck & hense forth the name bestowed upon me years

mshaeffer now i may not rember all of them but here are some of the ones that i do recall turbonetics t55 turbo charger [125hp over stock units], ford motor sport head with fms radical cam good
for 65hp, adjustable timing sprocket?, custom intake & custom
header, oboviously the entire block was reworked compression was lowered to 7to1 ratio, fms head was o ringed to keep from blowing head gaskets, heads had 5 angel valve job, this car was
far from stock it took me about 1 year to hammer out all of the #ers on this bird, as i saw many mods that came & went the most
stunning was a roland esslinger interrad a combo radiator & intercooler, 10 years now since i sold the car to a fellow ford fan
i am seeing more turbos from the factory & the heavy & wise use of intercooling some with even twin intercoolers on them, the clutch set up i used it on it last removed 12 pounds of rotating mass from the clutch & wow did it rev after that [ similar to what
my 32 valve lincolns do now from the factory BUT WHY LEAVE ANYTHING FACTORY] having a friend who owns a chassis dyno
i saw my birds go from tame to being feared by iroc's z-28's &
even my own kind [ i will not race another ford or slay them either its kind of like preaching to the quire] besides ther was plenty of prey for my bird, on one of my black turbocoupes i had custom plates now this is being a black thunder bird [SR- 71] some knew what i was trying to tell them & some had to be instructed. my gold bird & black birds both i still see them from time to time the owners bring them back for me to service them! Dude the potiental of turbos is wild.
p.s. the last boost level psi on my birds was set at 19 psi.
