Working on a buddy’s ‘01 F-250 7.3 I’ll start with we’ve replaced the ICP, IPR, fuel filter, IDM, and injector O-Rings (They all pass the buzz test). On first fire, it runs fine. Shortly after it gets up to temp, the throttle response goes away, blows a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust, and then the truck dies like it’s out of fuel. Fuel pump sounded healthy when we checked it. Give it 5-10 minutes, it’ll fire right back up and run fine for a few minutes and then die again. I’m banging my head against a wall here and I can’t figure it out. 5/8 injectors have been replaced by someone else. Why 5? No idea. I had the same question. Any ideas as to where to check next?
No codes or CEL? The parts already replaced were done so w/ Motorcraft parts? A fuel pressure test using the fuel bowl drain as the test port would let you know what's going on there. Forscan monitoring ICP would tell us if hpo is falling off.
Thanks for all the replies! I have ForScan and I can't believe I forgot to mention this...the ICP pressure reads 2600psi at idle. At full throttle it reads 3600psi. Brand new motorcraft. I'll run over later on today and get you all a pic of forscan so you can see what I see.
How’s the fuel level? They will run out at around 1/4 tank when the pickup foot falls off.
Also in tank filters can cause fuel pressure issues.
Fuel pressure test will tell you tons.
Check the Engine Oil Temp sensor PID. We’ve been seeing some crazy things from bad temp sensors lately.

If it were actually 2600 psi it wouldn't be idling it would be screaming and 3600 psi wot pulling a hill sure, but not sitting in park. Which I'm assuming since it won't run for more that a few minutes at a time.
