I've had many carbs with an auto choke like the one I have now. However, I don't remember any having an idle change issue as I now have. When the choke drops off fast idle and the engine temp is rising toward normal running temp, the idle is low and slow. When engine reaches running temp, the idle is faster and sometimes the engine runs on.
I'm considering replacing the entire choke b/c I have to turn it way clockwise, past the marks, or it will go into fast idle mode if I stop for 5 minutes on a 75* day.
Do you have 12v running to the choke or is it being fed from the stator wire? Are you pumping the throttle on hot starts which is setting the high idle cam? Is the pull off screw adjusted correctly?
The choke + is keyed 12v. The pull off is set past the clockwise side of scale or it jump back into fast idle when driving. I've set it according to the Holley .com site instructional vid , and still the problem occurs.
On the vid they say don't turn the adjustment past the scale either way, but if I don't it pops into fast idle every time I start it, 75-80* out. Yes, I give it a bit of gas or it won't start.
It is very irritating to have your carb drop into fast idle when you stop for ten minutes on a *76 day. If I don't give it any gas when I start it, no fast idle, but the second I touch the pedal to drive away, it drops onto the fast idle cam.
I'm also getting two idle speeds: First drive when it comes off choke circuit, the idle is 700 rpm. After the engine reaches running temp, I'm up to 800 rpm.
I'm going to search for v. leaks. Time to pull the choke apart for a looks see. I may swap out a Holley replacement choke and see if that helps.
