What would cause this to happen. 2012 f350 270k miles. Just replaced the booster a month or so ago. Was having issues with intermedient loss of power steering and then today, I was backing out of a parking spot andHeard a loud bang from under the hood. Lost all brakes and power steering. Opened the hood, and the part circled in the attaches picture had blown off and was pouring out brake fluid. What would cause this?
Easy, it was rebuilt incorrectly. There is a roll pin that retains it. I know Cardone drills there's and it causes this problem. The Ford units use a new accumulator so they just drive the pin into it and pull the assembly out.

Ok that could be, i was also just informed this is actually the 2nd time it was replaced. But that still doesn't explain why we lose power steering intermintily

The power steering is fed through the hydroboost, if the spool valve fails so does the power steering. Also the steering gear itself is prone to the steering issue of internal leakage.
