sounds like it is stuck. If what you are describing sounds like an airplane under the hood then it is stuck.
You could see if it willl turn freely be hand (motor off, keys in pocket of course).
If you just bought it , I would have then fix it.

As mentioned, take it to the dealer would be my recommendation too. you could double check the antifreeze expansion tanks to make sure you are not low on AF. Temp gauges all looked good, I assume?
