'97 4.2 missing windage tray?
I'd bought a '97 F-150 project truck with a very bad engine. When I tore down the engine the crankshaft was broken in two. I've never seen a pickup engine with a broken crankshaft. The engine didn't have many miles on it as it came from a near by rebuilder (totally out of warranty). The windage tray was missing. Is the windage tray structural part of the block assembly? I mean could the block flex enough without the windage tray to have broken the crankshaft? I replaced the engine with a used U-Pulllit engine and now that's using A LOT of oil. I'm thinking on reusing the original broken crank block and will have go somewhere for a windage tray? Any comments/suggestions is appreciated. bl
