97 ford F150 Needs Engine

The truck currently has a 4.6L Windsor and it needs to be replaced. I'm planning on buying a complete truck from a salvage auction and swapping both the engine and transmission. Since I will be purchasing the entire truck, can I use any 1997 - 2003 f150 with any 4.6l or 5.4l engine?

Seems like any of those should work but the short answer is no. I helped a friend of mine replace the engine in his 97 last summer and found out that Ford made two 4.6s, the Romeo found in most Crown Vics, Mustangs and some trucks and the Windsor primarily found in pickups. Only a 97 or 98 Windsor will be a direct swap for your current engine. Anything else will have physical installation problems or wiring and computer issues.
