What is the best way to access the gauges in my 53 F100?
Hey, jlamberth. If your gauges and wiring are original, you can take out the four screws holding them in, push the cluster back into the dash, turn it, and pull it out the front.
It won't pull out very far, especially with the original wires. They will be short and very brittle. Some of the insulation may even break off.
If the truck has been rewired, then it's anybody's guess how far it will pull out.
If you re-wire the dash, I recommend adding plugs. Then you can fish the instrument cluster out the front, unplug it, then remove it.
Effie's got it. All my trucks have extended cable that plug in. Factory should have done
that in the first place. After disconnecting speedometer its out as fast as you remove
four screws.
