Does anyone know if 56 F 100 gauges will physically fit in a F100 dash cluster. I realize they don't have the same faces, but are they the same size and shape ?
Well, I could probably tell youbut need a little more information.
As a general comment, all of the 48-55 gauge bodies and works are the same....56 are the same dimensions, but 12 volt. The differences in the gauges and how they mount has to do withthe mounting plates on teh back and of course the faces. As you know the 51/52 F1 gauges are in a circulat pattern and th emounting plates ar mounted diagonally.
I'm sure withteh right mixture of parts you could mount pretty much anything in the Bonus Builts into any F-100 (except th eearlier gauges into the 56s because of th evoltage rating difference.
You can also convert your electric gauges to mechanical using new off the shelf gauges. I have a gallery that show the step by step conversion.
So, please clarify for me, Yo want to take 56 12 volt gauges and mount them in what F-100?
PS you will also need to carry over all the 56 sending units - temp/oil/gas, as well.
with a little thought and a really big hammer anything fits !!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm gonna be running a mix of different gauges as some of my oe 53 stuff seems to have walked off , part 53 part 61 as by turning mounting bezels however i need them they fit ............. until i buy the new 12 volt replacements from mid fifty that is .
You shouldn't have any problems. The physical size of the gauges are the same. You would just remove the faces and mounting plates off the 56 gauges, put the 50 mounting plates and faces (with new decals) on them and reinstall. You HAVE TO HAVE THE 56 SENDING UNITS, AND INSTALL THEM ON THE MOTOR/FUEL TANK TO DO THIS!
Do you know if the oil and temp sending units are available at napa or some other auto parts store. If you know it would shorten my search. Thanks for all the help, Keith
yep on the oil and temp unit's . i am really gonna have to dig now as i looked it up but they were both used , including one side of my flatty's two temp unit's , for a loooooonnnnngggg time in various fords . i cant remember what site i found it on . maybe npd or dennis carpenter , federal mogul ????? crikes man i am making my brain hurt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can get the 56 gas tank sender at LMC but might be big bucks. They sell matches gauge/sending unit pairs there as well. So they have to have the sending units too.
There should be lots of places to get that gas tank sender - Dennis Carpenter, C&G, Sac Vintage Ford, etc. You may need to make or buy and adapter ring for your tank. Easy to do really!
