Towed my 5er from ATL to Bentonville AR. As I got close to the RV park I started hearing tire noise. Upon inspection the drivers side front was worn on the outer shoulder and cupping. I took the truck to the after market tire shop recommended by my son. I asked them to rotate the tires front to rear outside dually wheel and to align the front end. They put the truck in the bay and about 15 minutes later the nice man informed me that I had a bad ball joint and that it should be replaced. I thought about if for a bit and decided that was BS, they just wanted to work an old guy over a bit. So I declined saying I would take care of it when I got home. And I said I know you can't align it with a bad ball joint so just rotate the tires. They did and I left. The next chance I had to check the ball joint was in Oklahoma City. I took it to JOE COOPER FORD in Yukon. I told them I had been informed I needed a ball joint and please align the front end and change the oil. I left with a friend and about an hour later I got a call from the service advisor saying THE TECH SAYS THE BALL JOINTS ARE ALL FINE AND NO WORK IS NEEDED. I was amazed. Because I'm an old man they usually try to work me over a bit. So, if you are in the OKC area and need some work it might be worth your time to visit JOE COOPER FORD,
After reading all the horror stories about death wobble, do Ford service technicians know the difference between a good and bad ball joint?
I don’t know about death wobbles. This is my third super duty and my 20th year with one and I have never had the “death wobble” experience, nor do i want it lol
Glad to hear you found an honest shop. I’m. It surprised the tire place tried to work you over. Belle tire is notorious around here for finding stuff when you go in for a rotation. I also have never had the death wobble and I’ve probably had 20 plus of these trucks. I have 5 right at the moment. Lol
I trashed my Ford shocks on my trip to Wisconsin a couple or years ago and replaced them with Bilsteins and all of a sudden, my tire wear went away too.
