I went in for some new tires today and when they raised it up, they found out that after only 72000 miles both the upper and lower ball joints were worn out ...Dealer said that Ford is going pay up to 75% of the bill so it "should" only cost me a couple of hundred $$. Anyone else hear of something like this?
wow mine were gone at around 40,000 and the dealer wouldnt do anything.out of warrenty 3/36000.I replaced them myself with MOOG ball joints upper and lowers are greasable.
I think it cost me under 300.00 for the parts and took a few hours.
I'll be doing MOOG ball joints before my next set of tires. Sorry to hijack, but moderncylinder, do you know of a lower cost source than rockauto for these?
My Rig (04/350) is about 63.000 mile new and I started getting chatter from the drivers side this winter. I hope to replace atleast that side this summer. I also started lossing vacume in the hubs, so i'll be repairing and replacing alot along the way. Seals, u-joints, spindle bearings, and with it torn down wheel bearings will most likely be prudant as well. The dealer covering 75 percent sounds great. Ask them to really check out every thing between the joints though. It may save you further involvment at a, not so later date. Best wishes..
Grease them everytime you change the oil or drive through deep water..."overgreasing" them simply leaves open the possibility that the grease seal doen't re-seat all the way, allowing water/dirt to get in. But if it is contaminated, you need to push grease out to get the stuff out anyhow.
Im on my 4th E-350 or E-450SD work truck (the E-450 SD is a class C Motor Home) and all but one had the V-10, and all had to have the front ends gone through at around 60 to 70K. The owner of the front end shop told me, Fords twin I beam front ends were there bread and butter.
But He sure can make them drive like new.
