Type of paint for frame
My 65 F100 has some heavy surface rust and road grime and debris, I pressure washed with degreaser and awaiting the arrival of a siphon blaster kit.
I appreciate any comments and/or suggestions.
I built my 81 F100 flare side, cab off frame rebuild, it was going to be a driver, got almost 4000 miles since Nov 2019.
Anyway I degreased it, used a hand wire brush and the rust areas, then used an acid that kills rust on the full frame.
I rinsed it with water a few days later and when dry I used Tractor Supply Co. black oil base with hardener and sprayed it on.
Used it on all the suspension parts and the bottom of the bed floor.
So far so good and I drive it, pouring rain on the way home from work at 6am this morning.
And it is under this

I am having a debate with myself whether to go with the kit or purchase a can of oil-based paint although since the project consists of the frame and suspension perhaps I should look at a system that has some give/flexible. Dave G, if I understand correctly you applied the oil base to the entire chassis and did not have an issue with the paint peeling.
Again I thank U all!
when properly treated, it will be a matte black color.
i then prime with rustoleum industrial red oxide primer cut 60% primer 40% acetone and spray on two good applications to give total coverage.
let primer dry, then use rustolium industrial semi gloss black cut the same 60% paint 40% acetone and apply two good coats.
the frame on the 88 diesel was done in 05 and still looks like it was just done yesterday.

I also sprayed Ospho acid on the full frame and let sit a few days then hosed it down., dried for a few more days and then painted, no primer.
This is a driver and was to be a low budget project. Also if you have to many layers of product, primers, sealers, paint and all with hardeners it is real easy for them to chip.
