My truck was repainted sometime in the past with a (presumably cheap) two tone single stage paint job. There's a few places where surface rust has appeared in some rock chips and scrapes, so I want to clean them up and get paint on them just to stabilize the rust situation for now. The intent is to have a proper paint job done in a few years. I don't believe there is much more than surface rust as the truck spent most of it's life belonging to snowbirds who towed a trailer down to Arizona every year, so I'd like to keep it that way as much as possible.
My goal is to at least get these areas to be 'reasonable', looks-wise, so I want the new paint to match the existing as close as is reasonable.
What's the best way to get matching single stage paint mixed in a rattle can? And does anyone have a product recommendation?
Your best bet is a local auto paint supplier. Take the truck there. They can match it for you, and mix it in a spray can (rattle can). It’ll be lacquer, but good enough for touch ups. It should come with a decent spray tip too.
