The standard Windows and radio accessory delay problem
I posted about this last year, But I can't find them in "my post"
I have a 2003 7.3 4x4
It's rainy season in Florida. and I'm having that issue again with the Radio and power window function not working when it rains/rained...
My question was, does this truck have the VSM, or the other one?? what ever the computer is called that times the accessory, and allows the radio
and power windows to work.. I also noticed that when I put my trucks ignition into the accessory position, the radio doesn't turn on.. What does that mean?
Another question i have is, What is in the doors, be it in the latches, or handles that sends the signal to the VSM to say the door are opened, shut off the radio and windows?? Reason I ask is, Sometimes just opening the doors and slamming them, will get my radio and power window function to work.. So i almost wonder if the problem is with the signal and not the computer..
I still havnen't been able to locate the leak in the windshield. I suspect that's where it's coming from. I silicone the cab-lights and any other location i suspect a leak.. But i think the problem is in the windshield now..
The switches are located in the door latches. Sometimes a healthy zots of WD40 sprayed up in there with repeated door slamming will free the switches.
Thank you much, and the vsm is behind the radio? It's that right?
Yes I think really think this is a latch/switch issue.. and water is getting into the door as well.. but I want to get to the vsm.. pull it out and refurb the connectors and harness..
On 2002-2003 the accessory delay module is actually in the hybrid instrument cluster but it works in conjunction with the VSM. When my VSM started to go out I could fix it by pulling fuse #19 then re-installing fuse #19. It somehow reset the VSM and everything would work again for a week or two at first, but eventually it quit working altogether and I had door lock issues, dome light, radio, window issues and autolamp quit working. A new VSM fixed it.

The only problem I'm having is radio and windows not on upon start up.. especially following heavy rain.. None of the other problems, dome lights, door locks etc .. so that sounds like maybe it's only that hybrid accessory in the cluster?can I get to that??
Also, when I put the ignition into accessory. The radio doesn't work.. so hypothetically I can't sit in the truck with the radio on with the ignition in accessory position.. it would have to be in the on position.. do you know why they might be?? Same problem..
Eventually I want to hook the egt gauge that's already hooked up to the turbo, all I have to do is wire it.. but I want it on the accessory or on position. When I bought it they wired the positive to a fuse in the the box that only came in when the truck was on.. I cleaned all that up..
I don't think the relay is very repairable to the average person, unless your circuit board skills are good. Circuit board medics didn't even handle 2002-2004 clusters a few years ago but I see that they do now https://circuitboardmedics.com/2002-...luster-repair/ I suspected mine at one point but turned out it was OK, at that time a cluster was $1,100. I do know there is a fuse just for the radio, windows but I think the dome light is on it too so if your dome light works then probably not a fuse contact issue. Unless you are pretty handy with a circuit board Circuit board medics might be your beat option.
The relay is a piece of cake to resolder to the board.
Just smack the top of the dash at about the 1 o'clock position of the instrument panel cluser when it acts up....it'll make contact for that key cycle.
Awesome,, my brother is the solder king. . Replacing the relay altogether isn't needed? Is it? I'd say not, as it's intermittent.
Thank you for the helpful link.
