Oil pressure gage flatlined, dipstick reads way over filled
Driving down the highway and noticed my oil pressure gage suddenly dropped to nothing and not moving at all. No smoke or smell of oil. I pulled over to check the oil level. This is when i noticed the dipstick to read well over the fill level. (It was not previously like this) I started the truck back up with out any trouble and drove it the short distance home. I checked the level of oil the next day and it still shows the level to be way over.
Im new to diesel engines and dont know where to start.
I'm thinking the oil pressure gauge or the wiring are bad. If the low pressure oil pump was really not working, or the pickup was dislodged, the truck would run like 30 seconds and stop, no harm no foul.
Oil level might be more of an issue. Color is ok, no chocolate milkshake? Bad injector o rings could let fuel get into the oil, where it will mix right in, boosting the level. Pull the fuel filter and see if it is black, that's a common clue.
I drained the oil and it filled a 5 gallon bucket!! I let it sit for a day and nothing additional came out. But i filled the oil back and let it idle for 10 to 15 min the past 2 days and the oil level has raised some. My guess is the fuel and maybe and injector is stuck open or a bad O ring.
Any way to check that besides taking it into a shop?

This usually is oil getting pushed into the fuel system via a failed injector o-ring because the much higher oil pressure than the fuel pressure inside the injector which is why the fuel filter turns black. If the OP has an oil level increasing and getting thinner then it would explain the low oil pressure. I would not run the engine any longer until the issue is resolved due to possibly washing the bearings out with the thin oil. I'm not sure where the fuel is getting into the oil but maybe someone else may have and Idea.
