I'm working on a '58 F-100 shortbed that has a 302 in it but no harness. I'm going to rewire it EZ-Wire style. Question is, has anybody used this product and how simple is it? I'm a welder, not an auto electrician but I want to do the job right. I like the idea of a fuse box that EZ has instead of what I currently have now with that headlight switch that controls almost everything.
hey,i have a 58' s/b custom cab that i put a bigblock mopar in.and i used an ez wire kit in it and it was not bad.i am not an electriton either but the kit has good instruction's,and all the wire's are labeled every 8 to 10 inch's.it come's with everything you will need.sound's like you have a pretty cool truck,i think the 57'-60's are the best of the f-series.well have fun i have to go work on my truck to/scott.
which headlight switch and starter switch did you use? the GM one or the one for ford. some say I should go the GM route. one wire alternator and such. but since you have been through this, I would be more aptly to follow your lead. I always thought that these trucks were to boxey but after I got this one a couple of years ago and did the suspension the way I wanted to, these trucks take on a completly different look and handle very well.
thanks for answering.
hey 6pack,i have not put in the ignition switch yet but i am useing the ford switch.i am also useing the mopar alt.the kit come's will wiring for any alt. you want to use.the instruction's show how to wire most ford,gm,& mopar's.hope this help's/scott.
scott, that helps loads. the ignition switch that they sent me is identical to the original one that I have except that the key hole is larger and would mean that I would have to enlarge my ignition hole which I'm not real keen on. My dash is perfect the way it is. Are you using the original headlight switch?
thanks again for the info,
6pack
i don't have the headlite switch in yet,but i plan to use the ford switch,i hope.i am trying to keep the stock stuff in the dash other than some after market gauge's under the dash, and a tach.on top the dash.well i gotta get to bed, work tomorrow. let me know what you do/scott.
6pack,
I have a '59 w/ 302 and an EZ wire kit. Went in in one day. Great instructions, etc. I used the original headlight switch though. I was not aware they have their own switch that controls everything else. Hmmm, bummer.... wish I'd known. Mine's working out fine though.
