just rebuilt a Motorcraft 2100; how many gaskets under it???
The rebuild kit came with 4 (yes, that's right, four) identical gaskets to go between the intake manifold and the carb. There was only 1 there when I took the carb off of the 360 in my F-250.
Is there a spacer? You want a carb spacer. That's why 2 gaskets are needed. They often include extra gaskets in the kits depending on the application, there were differences over the years. Smog stuff has more holes, basically.
There was no spacer there when I took the carb off of the truck and no spacer was included in the rebuild kit. It had one gasket before that was about the same thickness of one of the gaskets in the rebuild kit.
I've got it back together now (with one gasket) and it's running.
Should I take it back off and put more of the gaskets in? It would be a minor pita to do so, but not that hard to do if it's necessary.
Yes, there should be some kind of spacer between manifold and carburetor, either phenolic or aluminum. Usually about 1/2". Post a pic of your setup. It helps keep fuel from boiling in the carb among other things.
Well, I doubt anyone could see what I have even if I did take a pic as the carb is back on the engine. All you'd see (if anything at all) is the carb and the intake manifold. The one gasket won't even show up.
I'll try to get a spacer and install it. If I have to I could take one of the extra gaskets and have one made from aluminum. A half inch (+/-) ya say?
First I'll try NAPA and the web.
Well; NAPA and O'Reilly and Summit Racing don't show anything online but I bet if I take one of the extra gaskets to town with me tomorrow to match it up to someone will have it.

Wood. Easy to make. Cherry, walnut. Even plywood. The 2 barrel spacers are tougher to find, though they are available.
Thanx for the tip on wood. That I can do. I'm better at wood than metal anyway. O'Reilly is seeing if they can order one, but won't know until next week. I can have one made and installed before then.
I looked on eBay, there used to be a guy who sold phenolic spacer kits for 2 bl "Holley" style carburetors, with manifold studs and washers, but I don't see them anymore. I see a few 1" performance types but they get kinda spendy for not much benefit for your purposes. The main thing is to get the carb away from some of that intake manifold heat. Sometimes too the accelerator linkage stuff won't line up right without a spacer. On my old slick the spacer is just a spacer, on later smog era engines they start providing vacuum to PVC valves, or power brakes & c.
