carb gasket

Ok here is a strange one. When I removed the single barrel carb from the intake manifold, I found that there was a stack of 6 gaskets between the carb and manifold.

You can kinda sorta of make them out here...

So what gives? This surely can't be right.

No,I don't think so,but they were sometimes added to reduce heat and prevent vapor lock,I believe.
