37’s on stock 17” steel rims?

Hey my dudes, so I’m thinking about leveling my 6.2 XL and throwing some 37 X 12.5’s on the stock 17” steel rims. Possibly powder coating the rims gloss black.

Anybody running a similar setup? I’m trying to get an idea of what it might look like when it’s finished but there are virtually no pictures online of anything like that. I prefer the small wheel diameter with bigger tires.

They’d look great, but your 17s are probably several inches too narrow, check out the tire manufacturer’s requirements for that size tire...

Tires, then decide

Do tires before you level!
I’m running 37x12.5r18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on OEM 18s at stock height.
Truck came with 20s. Found some OEM 18s and a set of used 35x12.5r18 Toyo RTs. This was my first experience with RTs. They were at ~50% when installed. Loud, but the ride was smoother then 20s with stock Michelins. No rub with 35” RTs. Dropped psi on RTs to 40ish in rear, 50ish in front and the ride got even better.
I’ve run Toyo’s MT & AT2 on previous truck. Tread life was good but they always seemed hard and were loud once broken in. I’ve run 325/60/20 (I think that was size) KO2s and liked them. KO2’s tread life seemed short. They’re soft, so I’d burn thru them in my tuned 6.4.
I chose ridge grapplers due to a recommendation from a friend who was/is loving his. He’s way more analytical about tires then I, so I took the leap to Nitto.
The moment I pulled onto street with the 37” ridge grapplers on 18s I knew I’d made the right choice. Very quite, smooth and I’m able to cruise highway with wrist resting on wheel at 12 o’clock. No vibrations, wandering, caster, camber, track bar, shock tuning, axle centering, etc, etc. worries. I’ve played the leveling/lift games before. It always ended with me wanting the stock steering feel back.
Tires DO RUB on radius arms at full lock. Happens about twice a day when pulling into a tight spot onsite. Always find the rub when negotiating my trailer in/out of tight spots. Surprisingly, I've yet to experience rub on any area but radius arms.
I was planning on doing Carli’s 2.5” backcountry kit. But the money spent won’t help my RA rub with oem wheels. Currently, I decided to wait on leveling after seeing a (different) friend running a Carli’s 2.5” pintop, +18 wheels with 37x12.5r20 and still rubbing on his sway brackets.
Do tires first, if you hate the rub, let the games begin and start shopping offset wheels and a level/lift.
Once you realize the cost/benefit to eliminate or decrease a little, harmless rubbing, you’ll likely be running 37s at stock height too.
Good luck. Post pics whatever you do.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't mind running a skinnier tire to fit the stock rims, if that's what it takes. I also don't mind a little rub as long as it's only on the sway bar or radius arm. I didn't realize 37's would fit without some kind of leveling kit. It seems like the ridge grapplers are a very popular choice. I don't plan on doing any serious off roading, but we have a beach where I live and I plan on taking some trips out there.
